Born and raised in Jamshedpur, an industrial city in the Jharkhand State of India, Shubnum Gill grew up immersed in the region’s rich tribal cultural ethos, where ancient myths, bustling urban landscapes, and socio-political narratives coexist. Her early fascination with words and visuals led her to pursue multidisciplinary art, studying fine arts at Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. Over time, she honed her voice as a poet, writer, and visual artist, allowing each discipline to inform and elevate the other.

– Feminine Narratives: Drawing from the strength and struggles of women in Indian society, her work often challenges stereotypes and redefines empowerment.

– Nature’s Resilience: The interplay of flora and urban decay recurs in her pieces, symbolising growth amid adversity.  Her paintings are indeed influenced by her childhood memories of forests and hills surrounding Jamshedpur and its vibrant tribal culture.

– Focus: Bold, minimalist designs for social campaigns, book covers, children’s books, and public murals. Her posters for gender equality and environmental awareness have gained local acclaim. She was the lead illustrator of a project that included providing ready-to-print illustrated science pages as well as children’s science pages to mass-circulated newspapers across India. The combined circulation of the page was 65,00,000.
