Building on this stellar foundation, Dr Sharma pursued his Master of Surgery (MS) in General Surgery at L.L.R.M. Medical College, Meerut (2009–2012), where he once again graduated as a Gold Medallist—this time awarded the Dr Govindswamy Shivpati Tripathi Memorial Gold Medal for the best overall performance in the MS (General Surgery) university examination. During this period, he also demonstrated early research acumen by authoring a university thesis titled “Role of Ionic Calcium Levels in Blood as a Prognostic Marker in Cases of Acute Head Injury,” under the supervision of Dr P. Bharti, Professor and Head of Neurosurgery.
His passion for cardiac sciences led him to pursue the highly competitive M.Ch. in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at S.M.S. Medical College, Jaipur (2012–2015), which he completed in his first attempt. During his M.Ch., he undertook a significant research project—“Midterm Outcomes of Mechanical versus Bioprosthetic Valve Replacement in Middle-Aged Patients”—a study that would later form the backbone of multiple publications and national presentations. Seeking global perspectives, Dr Sharma further enriched his expertise through a specialized training stint in 2018 at Deutsches Herzzentrum (German Heart Centre), Munich, Germany, where he actively participated in clinical discussions, operative planning, and complex surgical procedures alongside world-renowned cardiac surgeons.
Professionally, Dr Sharma has held key academic and clinical positions that underscore his versatility and leadership. He served as Assistant Professor (Cardiac Surgery) at Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi (2016), and then as Associate Professor in Paediatric Cardiac Surgery at the Superspeciality Paediatric Hospital & PG Teaching Institute, an autonomous institute under the Government of Uttar Pradesh (2017–2022).
